A relaxed, intimate micro wedding with friends and family in the centre of Bath.

I was so excited to be a wedding photographer for Matt & Jess, a couple from Bristol who has decided to book an impromptu elopement wedding in the beautiful city of Bath. Having lived in Bath myself previously, I could completely understand why they’d chosen to get married there. It’s one of the most beautiful and timeless cities in England from the gorgeous Bath Abbey, to Pulteney Bridge to the gorgeous Bath weir which has a wonderful walk.

Bridal preparations

We started wedding photography coverage at a gorgeous flat near the city centre. I met Jess and her wedding party there where we had a cup of tea and got to know each other before I started photographing her wedding details. The gorgeous wedding dress hanging up in the window, her chosen wedding perfume. We kept things really candid with minimal posing, just lots of photos of her and her loved ones getting ready before we got a couple of photos of Jess in her wedding dress and with her parents before they left for the registry office. They’d really thought the logistics through when booking everything as the flat was only a couple of minutes walk away from the ceremony so she was able to walk there.

Wedding Ceremony

The Bath Guildhall registry office has the most grand, luxurious exteriors from the way it appears on the street, to the amazing staircase besides the doors that open for confetti which are the perfect wedding photo opportunity. Jess and Matt had a quick ceremony before taking photos on the staircase and heading out into confetti. They then greeted their guests, had a couple of family formals before we headed off towards Bath Abbey for the start of their wedding couple portraits.

Bath Wedding Photos

I like to keep things really simple when it comes to wedding photos. Namely, I try to get you to do things you’d normally do – nothing strange that makes you feel uncomfortable or feel anything other than yourselves. So, we do a lot of walking, lots of looking at each other and keeping the movement there. I find when couples look at each other, the image is much more natural as they can’t help but smile in each other’s company. So Matt, Jess and I walked around the busy Bath Abbey, finding little side streets where we could find a quieter spot, we even managed to get some photos at some iconic Bridgerton locations. We finished up their coverage crossing the Pulteney bridge and walking along the weir before heading back to the Abbey where their wedding breakfast was being hosted nearby.

Being the wedding photographer for this amazing day was such a privilege. There are so many more couples choosing to have micro weddings or elopement weddings in the city now and I’m all hear for it. They bring so much personality and fun, they’re also a great way to choose what wedding traditions you want to keep, and ditch the ones you don’t.
