Being a wedding photographer at Berwick Lodge, a Bristol wedding venue, is always very special for me because it was my chosen wedding venue. I’ve also photographed a styled autumnal shoot there, the wedding venue is so beautiful and full of character, I could photograph it again and again. So let’s dive into the wedding photos of Adam and Carly, who brought their own sunshine to turn a forecasted washout into a day filled with love, laughter, and a touch of golden hour magic.
Wedding Preparations
When I arrived at Carly & Adam’s house in Portishead for wedding prep photos, the weather wasn’t looking it’s best. So we started photographing her getting dolled up by the makeup artist, and finding gorgeous spots indoors where we could shoot wedding details. All I need for pretty photos is a good natural light source, and a clear space. So I found a little spot on her wooden floor near a window and it looked so lovely. We then concluded bridal prep coverage with a tear-jerking father of the bride reveal before the went off to Berwick Lodge in their wedding car. I had a second photographer booked for this wedding, so we were able to get both Carly and her Dad’s reaction at the same time when they saw each other which was so magical!
Ceremony
The couple exchanged vows in the charming mews at Berwick Lodge in Bristol, creating an intimate and heartfelt atmosphere. As they stood there, promising forever, I couldn’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia, recalling my own vows in that very spot. It’s like the universe conspired to make every moment extra special. I loved photographing their wedding ceremony photos from behind the registrar so you could also see their guests reactions in the background, one of my favourite wedding photos to get before I darted up to the aisle to get the happy couple and their adorable sons walking back out the ceremony space into confetti outside.
Cocktail Hour
After the “I dos,” it was time to let the good times roll. The couple organized a flurry of games in the venue’s gardens, ensuring their guests were entertained and immersed in the joyous atmosphere. I’m talking about basketball hoops and playing treehouses in the venue’s gardens!
Couple Portraits
Now, here’s a delightful twist of fate – Carly’s stunning gown was from the same bridal store where I found mine. I couldn’t help but smile at the coincidence, adding an extra layer of warmth to the day as we started on their couple portraits. Berwick Lodge has a huge golden grass field, beautiful gardens and woodland walks so there’s so many options to choose from. Of course I had to start their couple portraits at the Aphrodite’s dome, a backdrop at Berwick Lodge that’s really popular, before we strolled through the wildflower gardens and beyond. The wedding venue really is a wedding photographer’s dream with so many gorgeous spaces to use.
Speeches & Dancefloor
After couple portraits were finished, we went inside for speeches which were so funny! I loved the stories about Adam and even spotted an old school friend of mine amongst the guests when I was photographing guest reactions! I love to get a lot of guest reaction photos during speeches and you can get some amazing natural candids whilst they’re listening to the stories being told. After speeches, food was brought out which is always a treat as Berwick Lodge is a 2AA rosette restaurant!
Wedding coverage ended with those classic dancefloor photos. I love photographing the couple twirling with their guests watching with delight in the background as their reactions is often something the couple don’t see except through their wedding photos so I like to capture that for them. Then, once the dancefloor is opened up to everyone else I like to get stuck in so I can document the energy of the floor and all the little moments that pass before I pack up my bags and drive home.
Berwick Lodge Wedding Photographer
Adam and Carly’s wedding at Berwick Lodge was such a wonderful day filled with so much joy. They just enjoyed every part of their day and even when it rained in the morning, they were totally chilled and knew whatever happened they had all their friends and family around them, celebrating them, and it would be incredible either way. Such a wonderful couple and family to work with.
