Today I wanted to write about something I’ve been really enjoying this year – in-home newborn photoshoots. These sessions are so special because of the intimacy of them. You’re in your own environment, we have a cup of tea, get to know each other and pretty much conduct the whole photoshoot from one corner of your home. So no need to do a huge house clean either – bonus. The calm, relaxed vibe of a in-home photoshoot really is so special.

Having had a studio newborn photoshoot for my first daughter, and an in-home photoshoot for my second daughter, we loved the latter for how calm the experience was. No mad rush to get out the house on time, I could sit on the sofa for the whole session which was great on my postpartum recovery and my eldest daughter was able to come in and out of photos as she wished and play with her toys the rest of the time.

I recently had the pleasure of capturing Katie’s maternity photos in Worcester before meeting her bump, baby Philip, in his first couple of weeks earthside just outside of Birmingham. The whole family were home when I arrived and we set up shop in the main bedroom for cuddled up photos with the whole family in addition to solo portraits of baby Philip on his own too.

There’s just a different vibe to in-home newborn photography – it’s raw and natural, telling the story of those early days in a way that a studio session just can’t quite capture. Plus, being a Worcester and Cotswolds newborn photographer, I love being able to incorporate the surroundings of the family’s home into the photos, adding an extra layer of you to the session.

If you’re expecting or know someone who is, I highly recommend considering an at-home newborn session. It’s a beautiful way to document those fleeting moments in a way that feels authentic and true to your family’s story. So here’s to storytelling photography and capturing those precious early days in a way that will be cherished for years to come.
